Whether you’re seeking calm, culture, or cuisine, Asturias offers it all.
Why this destination is a must-visit
Overo is a small, quiet rural village in the municipality of Corvera de Asturias, located in the heart of central Asturias. Surrounded by meadows and green hills, it retains an authentic, uncrowded atmosphere, ideal for those seeking to unwind without straying too far from major urban centers.
Less than 10 minutes away is Avilés, with its medieval historic district and the iconic Niemeyer Center. Also nearby is the Trasona Reservoir, a regular venue for national and international canoeing competitions, which offers pleasant walks along the water’s edge and water sports.
Interestingly, Overo is part of an area historically linked to industry and mining, whose legacy can be explored at the nearby Arnao Mine, considered the oldest underwater mine in Spain. In addition, the beaches of the Cantabrian coast are just a 15-minute drive away, combining rural scenery and the coast in a single holiday.
When it comes to cuisine, Asturian tradition takes center stage: fabada, cachopo, and Afuega’l Pitu cheese, always accompanied by freshly poured cider.

Avilés is one of northern Spain’s best-kept secrets, combining a beautifully preserved medieval old town with a modern cultural scene and easy access to the Asturian coast. Located in Asturias, this compact and elegant city is ideal for couples and families who want to experience authentic northern Spanish life, great food, and green landscapes without the crowds.
Make sure you visit:
- The historic old town, with its arcaded streets like Calle Galiana and Plaza de España.
- The Oscar Niemeyer International Cultural Centre, a striking architectural landmark by the estuary.
- Iglesia de San Nicolás de Bari, one of the oldest churches in Asturias.
- The Avilés estuary promenade, perfect for a relaxed walk with views of the city.
- Ferrera Park, a peaceful green space right next to the historic centre.
Beaches we think you’ll like:

- Arnao Beach (15 minutes): quieter and surrounded by cliffs, great for scenic walks.
- Bayas Beach (20 minutes): one of the longest beaches in Asturias, perfect for nature lovers.
Family-friendly activities:
- Visit the Niemeyer Centre for exhibitions, cinema, and cultural events.
- Enjoy a picnic or playground time in Ferrera Park.
