Why this destination is a must-visit

The Fuengirola Google doesn’t show you: a guide for travellers, not tourists

Forget tourist office brochures. Fuengirola has a hidden side full of foodie alleyways, secret terraces and free viewpoints that most tourists never discover. If you want an authentic experience and to avoid the typical tourist traps, welcome to the insiders’ club.

  • The free skyline from the Town Hall rooftop: Few people know that Fuengirola Town Hall offers one of the best panoramic views in town and is open to the public. For the pro version, head to the rooftop terrace at Hotel El Puerto. You don’t need to stay there to enjoy a drink with millionaire-style views over the marina and coastline.

  • The hidden alleyways of Moncayo Street (“Hunger Street”): In the centre, there’s an area known as “Calle del Hambre”, a maze of restaurants.

    • Our tip: avoid the places with staff trying to drag you in. The best and cheapest restaurants are hidden in the side streets, where fried anchovy portions are twice as big and half the price.
  • The “Mosque by the beach”: Fuengirola is home to one of the most modern and beautiful mosques on the Costa del Sol: the Sohail Islamic Cultural Centre. Its white architecture against the sea creates a spectacular contrast and it remains a hidden gem for most visitors.

  • The Saturday flea market is for early risers: If you arrive at 11:00 am, you’ll only find overpriced tourist junk. The real treasures, vintage cameras, vinyl records and retro décor, appear from 8:30 am, when local collectors make their best deals.

  • Free dolphin spotting: Many visitors pay for dolphin boat trips.

    • Local secret: walk along the marina breakwater early in the morning or at sunset and you’ll often spot dolphins close to the Fuengirola coast. Bring binoculars and save the boat fare.
  • The low-cost parking trick: Parking in Fuengirola during summer can be expensive and stressful.

    • The insider tip: park at Recinto Ferial, a huge free parking area most days except Tuesdays and Saturdays. The beach is only a 10-minute walk away.
  • Los Boliches and the train: your VIP pass: If you want to visit Marbella or Puerto Banús, skip the car and expensive parking.

    • Expert tip: use the intercity bus. For Málaga city centre, always take the train to Málaga Centro-Alameda station, right next to Calle Larios and without any traffic stress.
  • Jump2spain.com bonus: For the best seafood without beachfront prices, head behind Los Boliches Church. That’s where local fishing families go to eat.

Costa del Sol: Sun, Beaches and Endless Experiences on Spain’s Southern Coast

Costa del Sol is one of Spain’s most iconic holiday destinations, stretching along the sunny southern coast in Andalusia. Known for its year-round mild climate, golden beaches, and vibrant atmosphere, it’s a perfect choice for families and couples looking to combine relaxation, culture, and entertainment all in one trip.

Make sure you visit:

  • Málaga city centre, full of history, museums, and lively streets.
  • Marbella’s Old Town, with its charming whitewashed houses and flower-filled squares.
  • Puerto Banús, famous for luxury yachts, shops, and nightlife.
  • Mijas Pueblo, a picturesque village with stunning coastal views.
  • Nerja and its impressive caves, one of the region’s natural highlights.

Beaches we think you’ll like:

  • Playa de la Malagueta (Málaga): central, lively, and well-equipped.
  • Playa de Cabopino (Marbella): natural dunes and a more relaxed vibe.
  • Playa de Burriana (Nerja): great for families and water sports.
  • Playa de Estepona: quieter and perfect for unwinding.
  • Playa de Fuengirola: long, sandy, and ideal for all ages.

Family-friendly activities:

  • Spend a fun-filled day at Bioparc Fuengirola, a unique zoo experience.
  • Visit Aqualand Torremolinos for slides and pools for all ages.
  • Explore Selwo Aventura in Estepona, a safari-style wildlife park.
  • Take a boat trip along the coast to spot dolphins.
  • Enjoy beachside playgrounds and promenade walks in most towns.

Make sure you try these local delicacies:

  • Espetos de sardinas (grilled sardines on the beach).
  • Gazpacho or salmorejo, refreshing cold tomato soups.
  • Fried fish (“pescaíto frito”), a true Andalusian classic.
  • Paella with fresh seafood by the sea.
  • Churros with chocolate for breakfast or a sweet treat.

Make the most of your visit and go to...

  • Ronda (1h 30min): dramatic cliffs and one of Spain’s most famous bridges.
  • Granada (1h 30min–2h): home to the breathtaking Alhambra palace.
  • Caminito del Rey (1h): a spectacular walkway through a natural gorge.
  • Gibraltar (1h 30min): a unique mix of British and Spanish culture.
  • Córdoba (2h): famous for its Mezquita and historic old town.

9 Umm Travelled with family August 2021
Polite and helpful staff.Big rooms.location very good.Everything nearby.
Had two rooms reserved, one room air-conditioned was slow and the room was hot,and the view not good from my rooms.
Superb
6.9 Jose Travelled with family July 2026 Proximity to the beaches.
La cercanía a las playas.
The food could be improved, the room had to be kept closed because of outside noise and if I shut the terrace the air conditioning made more noise, the shower leaked, the pool was old, dirty and the edges had black greasy marks and it closed in July at 7 pm, dinner only served until 21:30h in summer, hotel car park very expensive.

8.9 Diego Travelled with family July 2026 I stayed for a week with the children from 2 to 9 July. Room service, restaurant staff, reception, etc. were very good. But nothing compares to the two members of the entertainment team, Conor and Antonio — a warm, family-style approach and hats off to them for managing the hotel’s entertainment all by themselves; I hope management take note of that. The hotel needs improvements in the corridors and in the rooms’ air conditioning — in short, a proper refurbishment is needed. In the dining room the food can be a little limited and repetitive. Perfect location. Finally, the hotel’s private car park is rather expensive. As a tip for future guests, there is a 24-hour instructored car park in Plaza Picasso, 200 metres from the hotel, charging €75 for a week, whereas the hotel charges just over €100 and it is not covered. Very good value for money.

Fabulous
8.6 Alejandro Travelled with family June 2026 Perfect personnel. Unbeatable location. Good food. Old hotel but with nice views. For a 4-star, perhaps more amenities such as shampoo as well as shower gel, a toothbrush, a comb, etc. Fantastic price for 6 days.
Personal perfecto. Localización inmejorable. Comida buena.
If I had to find something to complain about, the pool is small, old and has a terrible schedule (11:00-19:30h); we usually go down to the pool at 19:30h.

4.7 Ainoa Travelled with couple June 2026 The staff and being close to the beach
There was no air conditioning in the rooms, and the rooms were not cleaned at reasonable times—or sometimes not cleaned at all.

Superb
4 Lydia Travelled with couple June 2026 the proximity to the beach
la cercania a la playa
Needs a complete refurbishment. It’s rated 4 stars but I wouldn’t even give it 2. The corridors are very neglected, the carpet is dirty and torn, and the walls are stained. The rooms are outdated with only one socket in the bathroom, the air conditioning is obsolete and it was hot in the middle of June. After complaining they changed our room and gave us another on the 2nd floor which was supposed to have working air conditioning... but it didn’t. We paid €30 extra per day to get a room with a view because, according to them, the one included in the “busco un deal” booking was the standard and looked out over the back of the building. We will never return.

Disappointing
6.7 Angel Travelled with family June 2026 The hotel's location is perfect
La ubicación del hotel es perfecta
The buffet is very basic. Everything is adapted for foreign guests: breakfast with eggs, bacon and other typical items. But in the evening there is almost nothing for the kids. What was left over from lunch is served again that night, reworked — for example, if there was leftover pasta, in the evening it appears as a salad or a gratin. Leftover bacon from breakfast ends up in the salad too. The idea of using leftovers is fine, but this went too far. And the pool is very old. To top it off, on the last day there were cockroaches in the corridor. The rooms are fine and clean, but there is a lot to improve, especially the buffet.

6.4 Fernando Saez Travelled with couple June 2026 Hotel where we spent summers with the children over 30 years ago. Situated right on the seafront promenade. It could do with replacing bathtubs with showers.

Superb
5.6 Montserrat Travelled with couple June 2026 Good location and mostly friendly staff.
The pool is on the fifth floor, with no garden, toilets or anything. Very few sunbeds. The heat was unbearable; the air conditioning is centralised with no option to adjust, so it was very hot. The bathtubs have curtains. Worst of all was the food: limited variety, poor quality and bad flavour, little from the grill and almost raw. Definitely the worst. The car park price is excessive, especially considering it was almost empty.

Needs an update; to be a four‑star it should be more modern. More variety at dinner is needed, and soundproofing should be improved because if you are a light sleeper the noise from the discos below would bother you.

6.9 Andres Travelled with couple March 2026 The proximity to the sea
La proximidad al mar
Among the variety of food, the presentation of the dishes from the grill should be improved — they look like they’re serving food for animals. My rating is that I give the breakfast a ten, and the lunch and dinner no more than a six. The entertainment is short and held in a space that’s too small, which surprises me given how many lounges there are to host it.
