Villagarcía de Arosa is located right in the heart of the Arousa estuary, in the Galician Rías Baixas, and combines a seaside atmosphere, beaches, cuisine, and nature. It’s a wonderful destination for couples, families, and anyone who wants to discover Galicia at a leisurely pace, enjoying the sea and having some of Pontevedra’s most beautiful spots just a short distance away.
What to visit?
One of its main attractions is the boardwalk connecting Vilagarcía with Carril, perfect for a stroll along the estuary. It’s worth visiting Carril, a fishing village with strong ties to clam farming, and admiring the island of Cortegada—part of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park—from its coast. Another highlight is Compostela Beach, the town’s main urban beach and a very convenient option for combining sightseeing with a day at the beach.
What to eat?
Here, the sea takes center stage. You can’t leave without trying the famous Carril clams, one of the area’s most iconic products. You’ll also find excellent mussels, octopus, fish, and other seafood from the Rías Baixas, perfect for pairing with an Albariño wine from the Rías Baixas D.O.
