Why this destination is a must-visit
Maro: hidden coves, dramatic cliffs and unspoilt nature
If you're looking for crystal-clear waters, spectacular landscapes and a slower pace of life, Maro is one of the Costa del Sol’s best-kept secrets. A small whitewashed village surrounded by nature, where every corner invites you to disconnect and explore.
What you shouldn’t miss:
- Cala de Maro: Considered one of the most beautiful coves in Spain, this idyllic spot is surrounded by lush vegetation and bathed by incredibly clear waters. It’s also the perfect starting point for a kayak adventure to discover hidden caves and waterfalls flowing directly into the sea.
- Maro-Cerro Gordo Cliffs Natural Area: A protected stretch of coastline where rugged cliffs plunge into the Mediterranean. Here you'll find untouched beaches and coves such as Las Alberquillas and El Cañuelo, famous for their transparent waters and excellent snorkelling.
- The charm of Maro village: Wander through its quiet white streets lined with flowerpots, relax in the main square and enjoy the views from the Balcón de Maro, one of the most spectacular viewpoints on the coast.
- The Eagle Aqueduct: One of the area's most iconic landmarks. This impressive 19th-century aqueduct, with its four levels of arches, is a remarkable feat of engineering and a must-see on the road to Maro.
Our recommendation: During summer, access by car to some of the most pristine coves, such as El Cañuelo, is restricted to help protect the natural environment. Fortunately, a convenient shuttle service operates throughout the day, making it easy to reach the beach.
