Why this destination is a must-visit
Begur is one of the Costa Brava’s most enchanting gems. Perched on a hilltop in the province of Girona, this charming Catalan village blends medieval history, turquoise coves, and elegant Indianos mansions built by locals who returned from the Americas. It’s the perfect destination for couples seeking romantic scenery and for families who love combining beach time with culture and nature. With dramatic cliffs, pine-covered hills and crystal-clear waters, Begur offers an authentic Mediterranean escape with character.
Make sure you visit:
- Begur Castle, set high above the town, offering panoramic views over the coastline and the Medes Islands.
- The historic centre, with its narrow cobbled streets, colourful colonial houses and lively Plaça de la Vila.
- The Indianos Houses, beautiful 19th-century mansions that tell the story of Begur’s overseas connections.
- Sa Tuna, a postcard-perfect fishing cove with whitewashed houses by the sea.
- The coastal path (Camí de Ronda), linking hidden coves with breathtaking sea views.
Beaches we think you’ll like:
- Aiguablava: famous for its shallow, turquoise waters and fine sand, ideal for families.
- Sa Riera: Begur’s largest beach, great for swimming and water sports.
- Platja Fonda: a quieter, darker-sand beach surrounded by impressive cliffs.
- Cala Sa Tuna: small and picturesque, perfect for a relaxed beach day.
- Aiguafreda: a rocky cove, ideal for snorkelling in crystal-clear waters.
Family-friendly activities:
- Hiking sections of the Camí de Ronda, with manageable routes suitable for children.
- Kayaking along the coast to discover hidden caves and coves.
- Snorkelling in the calm waters of Aiguablava and Aiguafreda.
- Visiting nearby medieval villages for a cultural day out.
- Enjoying summer open-air markets and local festivals in the town centre.
Make sure you try these local delicacies:
- Suquet de peix, a traditional Catalan fish stew full of Mediterranean flavour.
- Rice dishes with seafood from the Costa Brava.
- Fresh grilled fish served simply with olive oil and sea salt.
- Anchovies from nearby l’Escala, a regional speciality.
- Crema Catalana, the classic creamy dessert with caramelised sugar on top.
Make the most of your visit and go to...
- Pals (15 minutes): a beautifully preserved medieval village with stone streets and countryside views.
- Calella de Palafrugell (25 minutes): a charming coastal town with white houses and small coves.
- Girona (50 minutes): rich in history, with its colourful riverside houses and impressive cathedral.
- Medes Islands (boat trip from nearby l’Estartit): a paradise for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts.

The staff of the resort are very friendly and helpful especially the master chef Jordi and his team composed of Santi, Veronica, Facundo and Laura
This resort is not suitable for people with mobility issues as it is on a very steep hillside.
Fabulous
La tranquilidad y comodidad
The service. Some staff respond very curtly. And it’s not easy to get them to say yes when you ask for something. Others are very friendly.

Maybe the sofa bed could be a bit more comfortable; everything else is fine. Thank you.

My accommodation was small but very pretty. It's the duplex tiny house. It's great for young people, but those of us middle-aged found it hard to climb the stairs up to the top floor (where you can't stand upright). I think they should warn about this on their page.

The mattresses, despite being thick and Pikolín, were a bit saggy on one side; we flipped them and that fixed it. The air conditioning is very noisy but if you leave it on during the day and put a timer on at night you can sleep fine — we weren’t hot, and because there was a mosquito net on the window we slept cool. When you enter the bathroom it’s very warm but you shower with cool water and it passes quickly. Being in the middle of nature it’s normal to have mosquitoes; we applied repellent every five hours and none of us got bitten. Bear in mind that if you want to park in the campsite you have to get back before midnight, otherwise you have to leave the car outside. Some people complained that they had to walk a lot, with slopes and stairs, to reach their cabin or tent, but fortunately that wasn’t our case as ours was at the front of the campsite close to everything.

That people leave towels on the sunbeds and then disappear is infuriating, they gave me two expired Cokes, and checkout should be later.

They tell you the room won’t be cleaned until the third day of your stay; in reality it was the fourth, and they hardly cleaned. They got the towels wrong and left us some dirty ones — I assume from another guest — which they only changed when we complained. Also, the hotel chain has a loyalty programme, but reception told us we wouldn’t earn points because we booked through a website that isn’t theirs. The ceiling in the upper part of the duplex is very low, and it was difficult to get into the double bed. The activities aren’t updated on the website, and we only realised after we’d told the child there would be an inflatable castle — there wasn’t one any day; I suppose, being the last week of August, they offered fewer activities.

The place is pretty and, on the dates we stayed (end of August, beginning of September), it was quiet. What surprised us most was that the site “boasts” many services — for example a pizza food truck, which we never saw open any day (it works by prior booking). Even more surprising was the shop where you can buy bits and pieces (very expensive — €6.60 for a beer). We noticed frozen pizzas there, and were shocked to see a waiter fetch two pizzas, presumably to sell as takeaway food to a campsite resident — they don’t make them in the food truck...
They also boast a Sky Bar; when we asked about it they didn’t know and sent us to the pool bar, where they serve cocktails made with juice from a tetra pack.
Be aware it’s a campsite with lots of hills and stairs. We were assigned the furthest pitch while my wife was pregnant, which was a bit annoying, but they offer buggy transfers and that saved us in the last days.
Breakfast is fine though not varied — lots of pastries, there is cut fruit, cold cuts, yoghurts, juice and bread... but not freshly baked bread as such, it’s the same bread they serve in the restaurant and it was quite hard.
Also, the day before our departure a cleaner knocked on our door almost at 9am to give us clean towels and take the rubbish.
One day we ordered the BBQ to bring to the accommodation (they put on the food they wanted) because we couldn’t find the chistorra anywhere and there was nothing marinated; they give you a sauce to put on it yourself and that’s it. The idea of the BBQ is well thought-out; I think it would be a good idea if each unit had one in case guests want to use an electric BBQ.
Be warned there are ants (it’s in the countryside, so that’s normal), although we decided to leave food rubbish outside to avoid an invasion.

The only negative is that, being on a mountain, there are some steep stretches; with the offer the accommodation is very good value, without it the area is expensive.
