Why this destination is a must-visit
Alhama de Aragón is a quiet and charming destination located in the province of Zaragoza, halfway between Zaragoza and Madrid. Known mainly for its spa centres, this small town is perfect for those looking for a relaxing holiday, nature and good food. In addition, its natural environment, with waterfalls and amazing landscapes, makes it an ideal place for both couples and those who want to unwind for a few days.
What to visit?
One of the most emblematic places is the Thermal Lake of Alhama de Aragón, a natural lagoon of warm waters that maintains a constant temperature throughout the year and offers a truly unique landscape. It is also worth visiting the Monasterio de Piedra, one of the most spectacular natural areas of Aragon, famous for its waterfalls, caves and trails through the woods. Strolling through the historic center of Alhama, with its quiet streets and relaxed atmosphere, is another perfect way to discover the character of this thermal destination.
What to do?
In Alhama de Aragón the star plan is to enjoy a day of relaxation in one of its historic spas, where you can soak in thermal waters and completely unwind. It is also highly recommended to take hiking trails around the Jalón River, ideal for discovering natural landscapes and viewpoints. For those who enjoy exploring, an excursion to the nearby Natural Park of the Monasterio de Piedra allows you to walk among waterfalls and lush vegetation, a very special experience at any time of the year.
What to eat?
The gastronomy of the area is very marked by the traditional flavors of Aragon. You cannot leave without trying roast lamb, one of the most representative dishes of the region. Also very popular are the migas aragonesas, hearty and perfect after a day of hiking, as well as local products such as ham from Teruel or artisan sausages. For those with a sweet tooth, traditional sweets and homemade pastries complete the gastronomic experience.
Our recommendation
If you are looking for a traditional restaurant with good value for money, Bar El Capazo is an excellent option to try typical local dishes in a close and authentic atmosphere. For a more special dining experience, it is worth booking at Mesón de la Dolores (Calatayud), recognized in the Repsol Guide, where they reinterpret Aragonese cuisine with quality products and a more elaborate touch.
Nearby excursions
Nearby is Calatayud, a city with an impressive Mudejar heritage declared World Heritage, perfect for strolling through its historic center and discovering its churches and fortresses. Another essential excursion is the Monasterio de Piedra, about 20 minutes away by car, a spectacular natural park where you can walk along trails surrounded by waterfalls, lakes and landscapes that look like something out of a fairy tale.
