The Temple of Hercules and Atlantis
Just off its coast lies the Islet of Sancti Petri. According to legend and ancient chronicles, this was the site of the legendary Temple of Hercules Gaditanus.
Historical fact: It is said that figures such as Julius Caesar and Hannibal once visited it.
The mystical connection: Some theorists and Atlantis seekers believe traces of the lost civilization may lie in this strategic enclave.
Why “de la Frontera”?
Many assume it refers to the border with Portugal — but it doesn’t. Like Jerez, Arcos or Vejer, the name dates back to the Reconquest, when Chiclana marked the frontier between the Christian kingdoms and the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada.
The Battle of Chiclana (1811)
A key episode of the Spanish War of Independence against Napoleon’s troops.
It took place in the area of Loma de Sancti Petri.
Although the allied Spanish and British forces technically won, they failed to lift the siege of Cádiz, making it a bittersweet victory.
The Origin of “Chiclana Wine”
Chiclana forms part of the Marco de Jerez wine region — with its own distinct personality. Its wineries produce outstanding fino and muscatel wines.
Fun fact: In the past, almost every house in the town centre had its own small family winery.
The Marín Dolls
If you’re from Spain, you probably remember the iconic flamenco doll that used to sit on top of the TV.
Their birthplace: The Muñecas Marín factory was located in Chiclana. Founded in 1928, its designs won international craft awards before closing in 2014. Today, a museum keeps their legacy alive.

La salida a la playa está muy bien y cerca.
The room-apartment is already quite old. Ours had a broken shower, a clogged bathtub, blankets on the beds, and on the ground floor you share the apartment with a lot of ants.
Breakfast is okay but dinners are the worst I have ever encountered. Very low-quality food.
This hotel is on the Imserso circuits. If you go through Imserso paying around 20€ per day for Full Board, then it might be worth it. But not to pay the same price or more as at the Vincci Costa Golf hotel (which is 50 metres away) and which is the complete opposite in terms of food quality and variety, quality of facilities, and maintenance service.
La habitación-apartamento ya está viejita. La nuestra tenía la ducha rota, la bañera atascada, mantas en las camas y en la planta baja compartes el apartamento con un montón de hormigas.
El desayuno regular pero las cenas son de lo peor que me he encontrado. Comida de muy baja calidad.
Este hotel está en los circuitos del Imserso. Si vas por el Imserso pagando sobre 20€ al día por pensión completa pues puede valer. Pero no para pagar el mismo precio o superior que en el hotel Vincci Costa Golf ( que está a 50 metros de este ) y que es todo lo contrario en calidad y variedad de comida, calidad de instalaciones y servicio de mantenimiento.
