CANCELLATION AND TRAVEL ASSISTANCE INSURANCE
Why take out insurance?
1) What is the purpose of the insurance?
The purpose of the insurance is to provide the traveler with greater peace of mind once the booking has been formalized. By contracting the insurance, the customer will be entitled to the different assistance benefits included in the policy as well as the coverage of the trip cancellation expenses specified in the policy.
2) Who are the insureds of this policy?
All customers who take out ARAG's travel assistance and cancellation insurance.
3) What is the temporary validity of the policy?
The validity of the insurance policy extends from the beginning of the trip until the return of the customer to his/her usual place of residence or, in the event of the need to be admitted to a medical center, until the traveler is admitted to a medical center located at a maximum distance of 25 km from the traveler's home.
Likewise, the coverage of the policy shall not be extended beyond 16 days after the customer has started the trip.
4) What territorial scope is covered?
The guarantees of the policy are valid for trips to Spain, Europe, or all over the World and Principality of Andorra.
It should be borne in mind that the Medical and Health Assistance coverages shall be applicable when the traveler is more than 100 km from his usual place of residence, or on another island in the case of the Balearic and Canary Islands, even if the distance is less than the aforementioned. The rest of the aforementioned benefits shall be applicable when the Insured Party is more than 30 Km (thirty) away from his usual domicile, or 15 Km (fifteen) in the Balearic and Canary Islands.
5) What are the guarantees covered by the insurance?
5.1) Medical and health care
ARAG will assume, up to a limit of 600 euros per traveler, the amount of the following benefits when these take place abroad, in Spain or the Principality of Andorra:
a) Care by emergency medical teams and specialists.
b) Complementary medical examinations.
c) Hospitalizations, treatments and surgical interventions.
d) Provision of drugs in hospitalization, or reimbursement of their cost in injuries or illnesses that do not require hospitalization.
e) Care of acute dental problems, understood as those requiring emergency treatment due to infection, pain or trauma.
Dental expenses are limited, in any case, to 100 euros or its equivalent in local currency.
5.2) Repatriation or sanitary transport of wounded or sick persons
In case of accident or illness of the traveler, ARAG will pay for:
a) The cost of transportation by ambulance to the nearest clinic or hospital.
b) The control by its Medical Team, in contact with the doctor attending the injured or sick Insured, to determine the measures appropriate for the best treatment to be followed and the most suitable means for the eventual transfer to another more suitable hospital or to the Insured's home.
c) The cost of transporting the injured or sick person, by the most appropriate means of transportation, to the prescribed hospital center or to his or her usual place of residence.
In the event that the Insured does not have his/her habitual residence in Spain, he/she will be repatriated to the place where the trip starts in Spain.
5.3) Repatriation or transportation of the deceased Insured
In the event of the death of an Insured, ARAG will organize the transfer of the body to the place of burial in Spain and will pay for the expenses thereof. Burial and ceremony expenses are not included.
ARAG will assume the return of an accompanying Insured to accompany the body to the place of burial in Spain. In the event that the Insured does not have his/her habitual residence in Spain, he/she will be repatriated to the place where the trip begins in Spain.
5.4) Trip Cancellation Expenses
ARAG guarantees the reimbursement of trip cancellation expenses arising from any of the following causes, provided that they occur after the insurance has been taken out and the trip is cancelled before the start of the trip:
1) Due to death, hospitalization for at least one night, serious illness or serious bodily accident of:
a) Of the traveler or any of his immediate family members (relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity).
b) Of the person in charge during the traveler's trip, of the custody, in the habitual residence, of the minor or handicapped children.
c) Of the direct substitute of the traveler, in his/her work position, provided that this circumstance prevents the traveler from taking the trip as required by the Company of which he/she is an employee.
Serious Illness" means a health alteration involving hospitalization or bed rest within 7 days prior to the trip and which makes it medically impossible for the traveler to start the trip on the scheduled date.
Serious accident" means bodily injury, unintentional on the part of the victim, resulting from the sudden action of an external cause and which, in the opinion of a medical professional, makes it impossible for the traveler to start the trip on the scheduled date, or entails a risk of death for any of the aforementioned family members.
When the illness affects any of the aforementioned persons, other than the traveler, it shall be considered serious when it implies hospitalization for at least one night or the need to remain in bed for a period of at least 3 days, or involves a risk of imminent death.
2) Summons of the traveler as a party, witness or juror in any legal proceeding.
3) The summons as a member of a polling station.
4) The presentation to examinations of official competitive examinations announced through a public body after the insurance has been taken out.
5) Serious damage caused by fire, explosion, theft or force of nature to his principal or secondary residence, or to his business premises if the traveler is engaged in a liberal profession or directs a business and his presence is imperatively necessary.
6) Due to termination of the traveler's employment. In no case shall this guarantee come into force due to termination of the labor contract, voluntary resignation or failure to ski pass the probationary period. In any case, the insurance must have been subscribed prior to the written communication from the Company to the employee.
7) The incorporation to a new job, in a company other than the one where the job was performed, with an employment contract equal to or longer than six months and provided that the incorporation takes place after the registration of the trip and, therefore, after the subscription of the Insurance.
8) Income tax return made in parallel, carried out by the Ministry of Economy and Finance resulting in an amount to be paid by the traveler that exceeds 600 €.
9) Act of air, land or naval piracy that makes it impossible for the traveler to start his/her trip on the scheduled dates.
10) Call for surgical intervention of the traveler, as well as medical tests prior to such intervention.
11) Call for medical tests of the traveler or first or second degree relatives, performed by the Public Health Service on an emergency basis, provided they are justified by the seriousness of the case.
12) Serious complications in the state of pregnancy which, by medical prescription, oblige the insured, his/her spouse or common-law spouse or person who as such permanently lives with the insured to rest or require hospitalization, provided that such complications have occurred after the contracting of the policy and seriously jeopardize the continuity or the necessary development of such pregnancy.
13) Premature delivery of the traveler.
14) Police detention of the traveler, occurring after the subscription of the insurance, coinciding with the dates of the trip.
15) Urgent request to join the armed forces, the police or the fire department, provided that notice is given after the insurance has been taken out.
16) Cancellation of the person who is to accompany the insured on the trip, registered at the same time as the traveler, and insured under the same contract, provided that the cancellation is due to one of the causes listed above and, as a result, the traveler has to travel alone.
17) Cancellation of a relative of the traveler who is to accompany the traveler on the trip, registered at the same time as the traveler, and insured by this same contract, provided that the cancellation is due to one of the causes listed above.
6) Specific exclusions from the cancellation expenses guarantee
In no case will cancellation expenses due to the following causes be covered:
a) A cosmetic treatment, a cure, a contraindication for air travel, the lack or contraindication of vaccination, the impossibility of following the recommended preventive medical treatment in certain destinations, the voluntary interruption of pregnancies, alcoholism, the consumption of drugs and narcotics, unless these have been prescribed by a physician and are consumed in an indicated manner.
b) Psychic, mental or nervous illnesses and depressions without hospitalization, or that justify a hospitalization of less than seven days. Pre-existing chronic ailments or illnesses, as well as their consequences.
c) Illnesses that are being treated or have medical care within 30 days prior to both the date of booking the trip and the date of inclusion in the insurance.
d) Participation in bets, contests, competitions, duels, crimes, fights, except in cases of legitimate self-defense.
e) Epidemics, pandemics, medical quarantine, pollution and natural disasters in both the country of origin and destination of the trip.
f) War (civil or foreign), declared or undeclared, riots, popular movements, acts of terrorism, any effect of a radioactive source, as well as the conscious disregard of official prohibitions.
g) Failure to present, for any reason whatsoever, the documents required for any trip, such as passport, visa, tickets, vaccination card or vaccination certificate.
h) Malicious acts, as well as intentionally caused self-injury, suicide or attempted suicide.
7) If I have a problem during the trip, will I be reimbursed for holiday time not taken?
In effect, ARAG will reimburse up to a maximum of 600 euros, an amount per day of holiday not taken. This amount will be obtained by dividing the amount of the contracted booking by the number of days foreseen for the trip, and will be compensated by multiplying by the number of days of holiday not taken, subject to justification of the cost of the holiday.
This guarantee shall be exclusively applicable when the traveler is forced to interrupt his trip early and has to return home due to any of the causes mentioned in the Trip Cancellation Expenses guarantee and also subject to its specific exclusions, occurring after the beginning of the trip and not previously known by the traveler.
8) What happens if there is a change in the contracted services?
* Unscheduled flight departure: ARAG will indemnify with 30 euros for every 6 full hours of delay, with a maximum limit of 180 euros.
* Departure of an unscheduled alternative transport: ARAG will indemnify with 30 euros for every 6 full hours of delay, with a maximum limit of 180 euros.
* For change of hotels/apartments: ARAG will indemnify with 30 euros per day for change of hotel or apartment, provided that it is of a lower range than initially planned, and up to the maximum limit of 180 euros.
The payment of indemnities as a consequence of the application of this guarantee shall not be cumulative.
9) What happens if I have additional expenses due to a delay in the contracted transportation?
10) What circumstances and payments are excluded from coverage?
The contracted guarantees do not include, in any case:
a) Events voluntarily caused by the traveler or those in which there is intent or gross negligence on the part of the traveler.
b) Pre-existing ailments or chronic illnesses, as well as their consequences, suffered by the traveler prior to the beginning of the trip.
c) Death by suicide or injury or illness resulting from the attempt or intentionally inflicted by the traveler on himself/herself, and those resulting from the traveler's unlawful acts.
d) Diseases or pathological states produced by the ingestion of alcohol, psychotropic drugs, hallucinogens or any drug or substance of similar characteristics.
e) Aesthetic treatments and the supply or replacement of hearing aids, contact lenses, glasses, orthotics and prostheses in general, as well as expenses arising from childbirth or pregnancy and any type of mental illness.
f) Injuries or illnesses arising from the traveler's participation in bets, competitions or sporting events, the practice of skiing and any other type of winter sports or adventure sports (including hiking, trekking and similar activities), and the rescue of persons at sea, in the mountains or in desert areas.
g) The cases arising, directly or indirectly, from events produced by nuclear energy, radioactive radiation, natural catastrophes, warlike actions, riots or terrorist acts.
h) Any type of medical or pharmaceutical expense of less than 9 euros.
11) What are the coverage limits of this policy?
Arag shall assume the costs indicated in each of the sections mentioned in the policy, each of them in accordance with the specific limit set forth in each of the guarantees.
12) Does the policy have private liability coverage?
Yes, ARAG shall assume, up to the limit of 6,000 euros, the pecuniary indemnities, which without constituting a personal penalty or complementary to civil liability, may be demanded from the traveler in accordance with Articles 1,902 to 1,910 of the Civil Code. Without prejudice to the exceptions provided for in the policy.
