What to see in the Costa Cálida

The ideal place to explore Murcia. For example, just an hour's drive away is the capital of the region: the city of Murcia, with attractions such as the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture; the Salzillo Museum, which houses an important collection of sculptures; or the Real Casino de Murcia, the work of Pedro Cerdán.

Nearby is the city of Cartagena, a natural port with fortresses and castles of great historical and maritime importance. You can also visit the remains of the only Punic wall preserved in Europe and a replica of the first submarine, the work of Isaac Peral.

Inland, towns such as Moratalla, considered the most beautiful town in Murcia, and Caravaca de la Cruz, an important pilgrimage centre, await you.

What to do in the Costa Cálida

The beautiful beaches of the Costa Calida stretch along 250 kilometres of coastline. Their facilities allow you to enjoy water sports such as jet skiing, windsurfing, sailing, canoeing, water skiing and fly surfing. The nautical centres of the Mar Menor and the coastal towns of Mazarrón and Águilas offer equipment hire and sailing courses.

One of the regional parks on this stretch of coast, Sierra Espuña, is an ideal place for practising outdoor sports. You can go hiking, climbing, canoeing, bungee jumping and many other interesting active tourism options. Are you ready to get your adrenaline pumping?

La Manga del Mar Menor is very popular for its beaches, hotels, apartments and water sports. With calm waters and a very pleasant temperature, this sea is ideal for windsurfing and kayaking enthusiasts.

The beach of Villa Nanitos, near San Pedro del Pinatar (a town famous for its salt mines), is a regular venue for kayaking, beach volleyball, water skiing and surfing enthusiasts. The beach of Punta del Fraile, near Aguilas, is only accessible on foot, but its crystal-clear waters make it an ideal spot for scuba diving in Murcia.

Other towns to visit include San Javier and Los Alcázares, the latter of which is ideal for families.

To the north-east of Murcia is the spa town of Fortuna, whose thermal waters were used by both the Romans and the Arabs. Here you will find a spa that has retained its late-nineteenth-century design, where you can indulge in beauty treatments and hydrotherapy.

Still not sure? Choose the type of accommodation you want - full board, bed and breakfast, etc. - and enjoy an unforgettable holiday.
