Why this destination is a must-visit

Ribeira, where the Atlantic shapes Galicia’s soul

At the southern tip of the Barbanza peninsula, Ribeira stands as one of the most authentic seafaring capitals of the Rías Baixas. Here, the power of the Atlantic not only defines the landscape, but also the spirit of its people.

Beyond its dynamic fishing activity, Ribeira reveals an extraordinary natural and archaeological heritage, from shifting sand dunes to prehistoric treasures that tell stories thousands of years old.

Curiosities that make Ribeira unforgettable

  • A leading fishing port
Its fish market is one of the most important in Europe, known for both the volume and diversity of its daily auctions, managed with cutting-edge technology.

  • The great dune of Corrubedo
A spectacular moving dune over 1 kilometre long, constantly reshaped by the wind and forming the heart of a protected natural park.

  • The Dolmen of Axeitos
Nicknamed the “Parthenon of Galicia”, this prehistoric monument features seven massive vertical stones supporting a huge slab, dating back nearly 6,000 years.

  • The heroines of Sálvora
In 1921, three local women, Cipriana, Josefa and María, bravely rowed into a storm to rescue 56 people from the shipwreck of the steamship Santa Isabel, a story of courage that still inspires.

  • Percebe de Aguiño, the Atlantic’s delicacy
Harvested from the most battered rocks, this prized seafood stands out for its intense flavour and firm texture, earning its reputation as the “black gold” of Galician cuisine.

Ribeira is not just a destination, it’s a place where nature, history and the sea come together to create something truly unforgettable.

A Coruña: sea, history and Galician essence in its purest form

A Coruña is an Atlantic city with its own character, perfect for a holiday that combines sea, gastronomy and charming walks. Located in the northwest of Galicia, it surprises with its lively atmosphere, its history linked to the ocean and urban beaches that can be enjoyed all year round. It is an ideal destination for both couples and families looking for simple plans and good food.

What to visit?

Among its must-sees is the Tower of Hercules, the oldest working Roman lighthouse in the world and symbol of the city, surrounded by a pleasant promenade. The old town, known as the Old City, invites you to lose yourself among quiet squares, churches and viewpoints. The Plaza de María Pita, the heart of the city, and the Castle of San Antón, with privileged views of the harbor, are not to be missed.

What to do?

A Coruña is best experienced on foot. The promenade, one of the longest in Europe, is perfect for walking by the sea or renting a bike. The urban beaches allow you to combine tourism and relaxation without leaving the city, and the atmosphere of its bars and terraces enlivens both noon and night. If you are travelling with children, the Aquarium Finisterrae is a great plan for the whole family.

What to eat?

A Coruña's cuisine is a tribute to the Atlantic. Here the Galician octopus, goose barnacles, Galician empanada and fresh seafood shine, always accompanied by a good local white wine. At the end, nothing like a Santiago cake or a coffee overlooking the sea.

Our recommendation:

If you are looking for a gastronomic experience of the highest level in A Coruña, we suggest Restaurante Alborada, a benchmark of contemporary Galician cuisine. Its proposal revolves around the local and seasonal product, with special prominence of fish and seafood from the Atlantic, all taken care of to detail in an elegant but close atmosphere. A safe bet to enjoy the gastronomy of A Coruña with capital letters.

Nearby excursions:

Very close to the city it is worth visiting Betanzos, known for its historic center and its famous omelette, or approaching Ferrol, with an interesting naval heritage and access to wild beaches of the coast artabra. Two perfect plans to complete the holiday without rushing.

4 Alfredo Travelled with couple May 2026 There is a nature park nearby with a beach that's perfect for walking along. It's a 15-minute drive from the hotel.
Hay un parque natural cerca con una playa ideal para pasear por ella. A 15 minutos en coche desde el hotel.
During the booking process, there was an option to pay more for a “superior room with sea view.” We chose this option, seeing as the sea views are the hotel's hallmark, and thinking that since we were going on a Monday outside high season, we’d be given a quality room. We were given room 108. The “Superior room with sea view” turned out to be the smallest room in the hotel, a room with white paint applied directly onto the concrete ceiling, not even a table, no wardrobe, just an open rail acting as a coat hanger. There was a large window, which can be tilted open, offering a spectacular view of the roof of the restaurant next to the hotel and its main feature: the large metal chimney or extractor vent, which emits thick white smoke when used, and which fills your room with its intense smell if you happen to leave the window open. The hotel staff, who disappear after 4pm, were not helpful. They should have assigned us a better room, especially since the hotel was practically empty all week, except on Friday when there were a few more guests. I think there were even days when we were the only ones in the hotel. IT IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE TO CHARGE EXTRA FOR THIS ROOM DURING THE BOOKING PROCESS. I’m sending you photos of the wonderful sea view. Lastly, we honestly can’t explain how the hotel has received such positive reviews. They clearly stayed far away from room 108.

8.6 Jose Ramon Travelled with couple April 2026 Beautiful place to see everything in an action-packed weekend
Sitio precioso para ver todo en un fin de semana intenso
In the accessible room, a chair would be necessary because those of us who need assistance need somewhere to sit to get dressed, put on our shoes, etc. It’s a bit inconvenient to have to take the chair out of the bathroom for everything.
En la habitación para discapacitados haría falta una silla porque los que necesitamos ayuda nos hace falta sentarnos para vestirnos, calzarnos etc. Y es un poco engorroso sacar la silla del cuarto de baño para todo
