Why this destination is a must-visit
Sanxenxo and A Lanzada: from unspoilt tranquillity to coastal glamour
Just a 10 to 15-minute drive separates the peaceful dunes of A Lanzada from Sanxenxo, Galicia’s summer tourism hotspot.
What you can’t miss when visiting both:
- Silgar Beach and the promenade, Sanxenxo: The town’s most iconic postcard. With fine sand and calm waters right in the centre, Silgar is watched over by the famous A Madama sculpture, perched on a rock in the sea. Along the promenade, you’ll find lively terraces, pubs and restaurants.
- Juan Carlos I Marina: The vibrant heart of Sanxenxo. Stroll among sailing boats and yachts, enjoy fresh seafood for dinner or stop for an evening drink by the water.
- Portonovo, the maritime and tapas soul: Right next to Sanxenxo, but with a much more traditional feel. Its tavern district is perfect for sampling local favourites such as sardine empanada, Galician-style octopus and calamari at attractive local prices.
- A Granxa Viewpoint: Located at the entrance to Sanxenxo from Poio, this viewpoint offers spectacular panoramic views across the Pontevedra Estuary, with Tambo Island in the background.
Our recommendation: Plan your day around contrasts. Spend the morning in A Lanzada, enjoying the fresh sea air, a walk along the wooden boardwalks and the open Atlantic. As evening approaches, head to Sanxenxo to watch the sunset from Silgar Beach, savour a delicious seafood paella and experience the town’s lively nightlife.
