Discover the authentic side of Lisbon with a guided tour of Alfama
Step into the heart of old Lisbon with a guided walking tour through Alfama, the city's most historic and characterful neighbourhood. A maze of narrow streets, hidden squares, traditional houses and breathtaking viewpoints, Alfama offers a glimpse into the Lisbon of another era.
For approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, you'll explore the neighbourhood with an expert local guide, who will share the stories, traditions and curiosities that make this area so special. From the sound of fado drifting through its streets to spectacular views over the Tagus River, every corner has something to tell.
One of Alfama's most remarkable features is that it survived the devastating 1755 earthquake better than most parts of the city, allowing it to preserve its authentic atmosphere and unique urban layout.
The tour begins in Rossio Square and passes some of Lisbon's most iconic landmarks, including the Dona Maria II National Theatre, the Church of São Domingos, Figueira Square, São Jorge Castle, the Portas do Sol Viewpoint and the impressive Lisbon Cathedral (Sé).
