Why this destination is a must-visit

If the Aragonese Pyrenees had a true epicentre of adrenaline and good vibes, it would be Formigal. Nestled in the majestic Tena Valley, just a stone’s throw from France, this destination is far more than just snow: it’s the perfect mix of jaw-dropping scenery, non-stop plans, and that fresh mountain air that completely resets your system. Whether you’re here to carve up the slopes or melt into a sofa beside a roaring fireplace, you’ve absolutely come to the right place.

What simply can’t be missed?

  • Aramón Formigal-Panticosa: This isn’t just skiing; it’s gliding through one of the biggest and liveliest ski resorts in Spain. There are runs for everyone, from first-timers clipping into their boots to thrill-seekers chasing steep descents.
  • Sallent de Gállego: Prepare to fall in love. This village captures the very essence of the Pyrenees: cobbled streets, stone houses, and that comforting smell of burning wood that welcomes you the moment you arrive.
  • Lanuza Reservoir: A giant mirror surrounded by snow-capped peaks. It’s the mandatory Instagram moment of the trip; the views are quite literally postcard-perfect.

What’s on the agenda?

Boredom simply doesn’t exist here. If skiing or snowboarding isn’t your thing, grab a pair of snowshoes, rev up on a snowmobile adventure, or relive your childhood on the sledging circuits.

And when the sun goes down… the real highlight begins: Après-ski. Terraces filled with music, buzzing atmospheres, and that well-earned toast while your body recovers from the cold. Prefer something more relaxing? The wellness areas will leave you feeling completely refreshed for the next day.

A taste of the mountains

The food here is all about hearty, comforting mountain cuisine. Don’t leave without trying:

  • Migas Aragonesas: The official fuel of the Pyrenees.
  • Ternasco de Aragón: Melt-in-the-mouth lamb cooked to perfection.
  • Olla Tensina: Guaranteed to warm you up from the very first spoonful.

And absolutely essential! Artisan cheeses and local cured meats you’ll wish you could take home by the suitcase-load.

Our recommendations

  • For lovers of great meat dishes: Asador Borrullán in Sallent de Gállego. Chargrilled cooking, tradition, and quality without any fuss.
  • For a special dinner: Vidocq. Creative cuisine with a true mountain soul. A unique dining experience that will completely blow you away.

Easy nearby escapes

If you’ve got extra time, Panticosa awaits with its historic spa resort — pure tranquillity. And if you want to experience nature on a grand scale, Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park is close enough that it would almost be a crime not to visit its spectacular waterfalls.
