What started as a small fishing settlement has become one of the most charming holiday destinations on the Costa de la Luz, thanks to its endless sandy beaches and its unique natural surroundings.

• The secret operation that changed World War II In 1943, a fisherman discovered the body of a supposed British officer on the beach of Punta Umbría, carrying secret military documents in his briefcase. In reality, it was part of the famous Allied espionage plan known as Operation Mincemeat, created to convince the Germans that the invasion would take place in Greece instead of Sicily. The plan worked perfectly and became one of the most important deception operations of the war.

• The “floating” wooden houses built by the British At the end of the 19th century, the British managers of the Riotinto mines chose Punta Umbría as their summer retreat. To cope with the heat and humidity, they built elevated wooden houses on stilts so that air could circulate underneath. Today, you can visit an exact replica at the Casa Museo de los Ingleses.

• The legendary “Canoa” crossing Long before roads connected Punta Umbría with Huelva, the only way to reach the village was by crossing the estuary aboard the famous “Canoa de Punta Umbría”. During summer, this traditional boat service still operates, offering one of the most authentic and beautiful experiences in the area while sailing through the marshlands.
