Why this destination is a must-visit

Isaba: The Best Kept Secret of the Navarrese Pyrenees

Looking for an authentic holiday that combines history, nature and legends? Isaba is not just a village; it is the capital of the Roncal Valley and a destination that seems to have stopped in time. Take advantage of this deal and discover why it is a unique place in the world!

Did you know that...?

  • Millenary Peace: In Isaba is celebrated the Tribute of the Three Cows, the oldest peace treaty in Europe (since 1375!). A spectacle of brotherhood that you will not see anywhere else.
  • Cinema with Soul: You can enjoy a movie in the "penultimate cinema of the Pyrenees", a historical jewel over 80 years old that stands the test of time.
  • Routes of Legend: A stone's throw from the town center, the Belabarce Waterfall awaits you with its crystal clear waters and Romanesque bridges that look like something out of a fairy tale.
  • Flavor with Denomination: Do not leave without trying Roncal cheese, the first in Spain to have its D.O. A strong and authentic delicacy like its people. Stroll through its cobbled streets, admire its stone houses with circular chimneys and breathe the fresh air of the Mesa de los Tres Reyes. Whether for hiking among beech trees or to take refuge in its medieval atmosphere, Isaba is the perfect refuge.

Roncal Valley, tucked away in the Navarrese Pyrenees, is one of those hidden gems that feels completely untouched. With its strong identity, unique traditions, and breathtaking mountain landscapes, it’s the perfect destination for travellers looking to combine nature, culture, and authenticity in one trip.

Make sure you visit:

  • Isaba, the valley’s most picturesque village, with its stone houses and charming streets.
  • Roncal, birthplace of the world-famous tenor Julián Gayarre, where you can visit his house-museum and mausoleum.
  • Burgui, the gateway to the valley and home of the traditional Almadía festival.
  • Larra Nature Reserve, a striking karst landscape often described as a “stone desert”.
  • The seven villages of the valley, each with its own personality and shared history.

Family-friendly activities:

  • Enjoy scenic hiking routes through forests and mountains, suitable for all levels.
  • Discover the history of the Almadías, traditional log rafts once used to transport timber.
  • Visit interpretation centres to learn about local culture and nature.
  • Try cross-country skiing in Larra-Belagua during winter.
  • Explore the valley by bike or simply enjoy peaceful walks through its villages.

Make sure you try these local delicacies:

  • Roncal cheese, the first cheese in Spain to receive a Protected Designation of Origin.
  • Migas de pastor, a hearty traditional shepherd’s dish.
  • Lamb cooked “al chilindrón”, rich in flavour and local tradition.
  • Local beans and mountain stews, perfect after a day outdoors.
  • Artisan products made from local ingredients.

Make the most of your visit and go to...

  • Selva de Irati (40 min): one of the largest beech forests in Europe, ideal for nature lovers.
  • Ochagavía (30 min): a postcard-perfect village with traditional Pyrenean architecture.
  • Belagua Valley: perfect for hiking, wildlife spotting, and enjoying dramatic landscapes.
  • Ansó Valley (1h, Aragón): another beautiful Pyrenean valley with a different regional character.

Mal. No voy a volver en tiempo.
