Why this destination is a must-visit
Rasines is a municipality in eastern Cantabria that stands out for its extraordinary natural, historical and speleological wealth. The territory is home to some of the most important subway systems in northern Spain, such as the Red del Silencio System, with more than 60 km of galleries, and the Picón del Carlista massif, of great scientific interest. In its landscape there are frequent torcas and chasms, especially in areas such as Ojebar.
Rasines also has a remarkable archaeological value. The Cueva del Valle cave, in Helguera, documents human presence since the Paleolithic, with remains from the Magdalenian and Azilian periods, and is a key reference for the study of Cantabrian prehistory. From the Iron Age comes a Cantabrian stela found in the municipality, today preserved in the Museum of Prehistory and Archaeology of Cantabria.
In terms of architecture, the churches of San Martín (Cereceda) and San Andrés (Rasines) stand out, as well as several traditional mansions, which reflect the rural history and the peaceful character of the municipality.
