Authentic Calçotada: a hands-on food experience
A blazing grill, tender onions straight from the fire, romesco sauce, a bib and the joy of eating with your hands. That’s a calçotada, one of Catalonia’s most loved winter food traditions.
Never heard of it? A calçotada is a relaxed, social meal built around calçots — sweet, mild spring onions grilled over an open flame, peeled by hand and dipped in romesco sauce. What makes it special isn’t just the flavour, but the experience: informal, fun and meant to be shared.
Enjoy it at Restaurant Les Arades, winner of second prize at the Calçotada Sauce Competition in Valls, awarded by the Tarragona Provincial Council. The restaurant is located in Vilabella, very close to Valls, the capital of calçotadas. Transport to the restaurant is not included.
What’s included in the calçotada menu?
- Calçots with romesco sauce
- Grilled sausage, pork belly and black pudding with beans

For just €11 extra, upgrade your menu with grilled lamb and roasted potato, desserts (orange, flan or ice cream), coffee and a liqueur. Available during the booking process.
When does the calçotada take place? Calçotadas are held on Thursdays, Fridays and weekends from 29 November 2025 to 6 April 2026, except during Christmas week.
If your first hotel night is on Sunday, the calçotada will be on the day of arrival. Otherwise, it will take place the following day.
In rare cases, the date may change, but it will always be during your stay and you’ll be informed in advance.

Los apartamentos están bastante bien, muy cerca de la playa, con piscina y muy bien equipados, pero lejos del centro, no había nada de ambiente, ni nada cerca, está situado en la zona de hoteles de la pineda y estaba todo cerrado, teníamos que coger el coche para todo. Las chicas de recepción muy amables y un encanto. En otra época del año es un buen sitio para pasar unos días.
Hemos estado un fin de semana de aire y viento, no sé podía acceder a la zona de la piscina. Aunque había dos máquinas expendedoras de bebidas, galletas y dulces, echamos en falta el bar, música de ambiente en la zona del hall y de sofás. El apartamento hacia olor a cerrado. Entiendo que en temporada alta el ambiente será muy diferente.

The apartments for 6 people are not sized for such capacity. The inside table is only for 4 people, every time we ate we had to enter the one on the terrace or the other way around.

Los colchones de las habitaciones son muy viejos, duros y no se puede descansar por lo que adelantamos una noche la vuelta a casa.
El menaje de cocina es justo.

És un hotel força nou, amb disseny modern i ben equipat. El personal amable i amb instal·lacions interessants com piscina i gimnàs. Donada la seva ubicació en un polígon resulta relativament fàcil aparcar de franc al carrer, tot i que l'hotel compta amb aparcament privat a un preu de 9,90 €/dia (febrer 2026)
