Authentic Calçotada: a hands-on food experience
A blazing grill, tender onions straight from the fire, romesco sauce, a bib and the joy of eating with your hands. That’s a calçotada, one of Catalonia’s most loved winter food traditions.
Never heard of it? A calçotada is a relaxed, social meal built around calçots: sweet, mild spring onions grilled over an open flame, peeled by hand and dipped in romesco sauce. What makes it special isn’t just the flavour, but the experience: informal, fun and meant to be shared.
Enjoy it at Restaurant Les Arades, winner of second prize at the Calçotada Sauce Competition in Valls, awarded by the Tarragona Provincial Council. The restaurant is located in Vilabella, very close to Valls, the capital of calçotadas. Transport to the restaurant is not included.
What’s included in the calçotada menu?

For just €11 extra, upgrade your menu with grilled lamb and roasted potato, desserts (orange, flan or ice cream), coffee and a liqueur. Available during the booking process.
When does the calçotada take place? Calçotadas are held on Thursdays, Fridays and weekends from 29 November 2025 to 6 April 2026, except during Christmas week.
If your first hotel night is on Sunday, the calçotada will be on the day of arrival. Otherwise, it will take place the following day.
In rare cases, the date may change, but it will always be during your stay and you’ll be informed in advance.

Era semana Santa y no había ningun servicio disponible: ni piscina, ni snack bar, ni zona chill out, ni siquiera te dejaban acceder a la zona de tumbonas. Le preguntamos mas de una vez a las chicas de recepcion si se iba a abrir la piscina, y no nos respondían nada seguro: nos dijeron “ tal vez alguno de estos días se abra, ya lo vereis”
Llegamos hacia las 12:30y me pase por recepción para preguntar cuando podríamos entrar. Me contestaron que la habitación estaba lista pero si queríamos entrar, debía pagar un suplemento de 20€. Lo pagué, pero me parece muy cutre que te lo cobren , teniendo la habitacion lista.
Me cobraron la tasa turistica de mi hija de 16 años, cual fue mi sorpresa cuando despues de estar en este alojamiento fuimos a otro de la provincia de Tarragona y me dijeron que solo los mayores de edad pagan la tasa, me quede a cuadros.
Tambien tuve un problema con la lavadora que había en la planta baja, y me dijeron que yo misma tenía que llamar al servicio tecnico( así lo tuve que hacer)

Good value for money. Great big family apartment. Perfect location, especially for the best beaches. Fantastic staff on arrival. Really enjoyed breakfast.
I didn't dislike dinner and I had some decent beef stew, but there wasn't a great selection and the quality of the basics like rice and pasta just didn't look great.

Al ducharte dejabas mucha agua en el suelo y no podías pasar al baño ya que estaba todo encharcado.

No se especificaba en la oferta que tienes que dejar una fianza de 200€, el personal bastante lento. Tienes que hacer el check-in antes de las 22 porque sino cierran las puertas y recepción, solo puedes entrar con una tarjeta que te dan antes.

La habitación que nos toco era un estudio pequeño, eramos tres personas y solo estaban montadas dos camas, tuvimos que montar el sofá cama que llevaba una larga temporada sin usarse porque había suciedad al sacar la cama. Es temporada baja por lo que un upgrade a una habitación mejor no les habría resultado difícil.
