An “invisible” wall against pirates
Santa Susanna boasts one of the highest concentrations of watchtowers along the Catalan coast — 7 of the original towers are still preserved. During the 15th and 16th centuries, Barbary pirate attacks were so frequent that locals built these towers to signal with bonfires and seek refuge. Today, some are integrated into private farmhouses, while others can be visited.
