Nerja is a picturesque coastal town on the eastern edge of the Costa del Sol, in the province of Malaga, Andalusia. Nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra Almijara mountains, Nerja is renowned for its stunning beaches, dramatic cliffs and charming old town, offering a perfect balance of nature, culture and relaxation.

Top Attractions

  • Balcón de Europa: A picturesque promenade and viewpoint built on a cliff overlooking the coast and mountains - the heart of Nerja.
  • Nerja Caves (Cuevas de Nerja): One of Spain's most spectacular natural attractions, with vast underground chambers, prehistoric cave paintings and cave concerts.
  • Church of El Salvador: A beautiful 17th century church in the town centre, combining Baroque and Mudejar styles.
  • Aqueduct of the Eagle (Acueducto del Águila): A 19th century structure that still stands proudly among the fields near the caves.
  • Nerja Museum: Located near the Balcón de Europa, it offers an insight into local history and the discovery of the caves.

Best beaches in Nerja

  • Playa Burriana: Nerja's most popular beach, with sun loungers, restaurants, water sports and beach volleyball - great for families and groups.
  • Playa Calahonda: A small postcard beach just below the Balcón de Europa, with dramatic cliffs and clear waters.
  • Playa de Maro: Just outside Nerja, this unspoilt beach is surrounded by farmland and natural beauty, perfect for kayaking and snorkelling.
  • El Playazo: A long, relaxed beach to the west of the town, less crowded and ideal for relaxing days on the beach.
  • Playa Carabeo: A quiet cove accessed by steps from the old town - ideal for a peaceful swim in turquoise waters.

Family Friendly Activities

  • Take a stroll along the Paseo Marítimo: Safe and scenic, perfect for a family stroll with playgrounds, ice-cream stands and sea views.
  • Mini-train tour of Nerja: A fun way to see the highlights of the town with younger children.
  • Nearby Aquaparks (Summer): A short drive away, in towns such as Vélez-Málaga, for a full day of water fun.

Local gastronomy

  • Espetos de sardinas: Grilled sardines cooked over an open fire and served on the beach - a staple of the Costa del Sol.
  • Ajoblanco: A cold almond and garlic soup, typical of the region - refreshing and unique.
  • Pescaito frito: A variety of fried fish such as anchovies, squid and red mullet.

Gracias

2 Pedro Miguel Travelled with couple August 2025 The best thing is everything that Malaga offers, which is a lot and we liked it a lot.
The accommodation is in a state of disrepair and renovating it is a shame how dirty everything is, the room and the dining area are a disgrace, we have hardly eaten despite having Half Board, it was dirty and full of flies and mosquitoes. It has a very nice terrace but we are not allowed to use it as it is for paying customers only, we were not allowed to use it. I think I was looking for a deal, they should stop working with this establishment.

3.4 Carmen Travelled with couple August 2025 The rooms have nothing to do with the photos published in the accommodation booking, the pool is the same, the rooms have nothing to do with it, and with water leakage problems with the danger that this entails and the room cleaning leaves much to be desired throughout the stay, they have not even swept the floor, they have not replaced the toilet paper, I think that for the price per night you might as well go camping. First time I make a booking with you and this happens.

7.4 Jesus Travelled with couple August 2025 The food is exquisite as well as plentiful, and the waiters are delightful, super attentive, and pleasant.
The room is very outdated, room cleanliness is good but the cleanliness on the stairs leading to the rooms and hallways is nonexistent, long-standing cobwebs, a lot of dust accumulated over weeks without cleaning... The elevator is disgusting, hasn't been cleaned in months.

4.3 Pao Travelled with couple July 2025 The village is peaceful and the staff is very nice, there are things to see nearby. For lunch and dinner, there is a very affordable and good quality bar restaurant nearby, with a cool vibe and beautiful views. Good car park nearby.
Buen parking cerca.
Overall shabby, considering the price. The facilities are from the year 0 BC, breakfasts are limited and poor. The hotel and the location in general have very poor access for disabilities. The pool is nothing like the photos, not even close. The rooms, although spacious, are also poor; there was no fridge in ours and the shampoo was just average. The economy rooms are on the other side, and to get to the pool or eat you have to do a dance to the other building. To go down to the beach, you have to be part mountain goat, very poor access.
